Burt Munro of Invercargill
Burt Munro
was the New Zealander who set an under-1000 cc world motorcycle land speed record—which
still stands—in 1967 at Bonneville Salt Flats, USA, with a self-modified
Indian motorcycle. His effort to set the record was made famous by the 2005
film "The World's Fastest Indian" (2005), starring Anthony Hopkins.
Our Burt Munro tour visits Invercargill, the city at the bottom of the South
Island, where Burt Munro lived.
Usually we go there on the weekend of Burt
Munro Challenge. However, the organisers of the Challenge cannot confirm
the dates of this weekend in future years, so our visit to Invercargill may
not coincide with the festival.
